What to expect when visiting a Physical Therapist

*When you visit a Physical Therapist, what should you expect?

During your initial evaluation a detailed physical history will be taken and questions will be asked to develop a picture to base the examination and test procedures on. A series of examination and tests will be performed, including orthopedic, neurological, and other physical tests. An assessment of the presenting symptoms will be developed and explained to the patient including a treatment and plan of care. An understanding will be reached between the physical therapist and the patient to ensure that each is aware of how long the treatment is likely to continue, the type of treatment and what the patient should expect. This will be monitored and adapted as progress is made. If there is no improvement then another choice of treatment or therapy or medical opinion will be sought.

Examination and treatment is made manually using the hands applied to the patient’s body, spine, joints and soft tissues. The treatment itself will consist of the different techniques used within physical therapy ranging from manual therapies, including mobilization, manipulation, stretching, and massage; pain and anti-inflammatory modalities, and therapeutic exercises as necessary for each and every patient.

If for any reason you wish to be seen and treated by a female or male therapist then please just make that request and we will be happy to follow your wishes.

If at any time during your treatment you feel uncomfortable or simply not happy with any aspect of the treatment, then please speak with your therapist and we will endeavor to resolve any issues that you have to ensure a full resolution.  It is our sole desire to provide professional physical therapy care and treatment.
